This notice explains what personal data Tavue Labs Ltd collects when you use our website or the Tavue app, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate.
Tavue Labs Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17380502, with its registered office in London, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
Contact for any privacy question or request: hello@tavuelabs.com.
| Data | When |
|---|---|
| Menu photos you scan | When you use the camera or pick an image in the Tavue app |
| Dish photos you upload | Only if you choose to add photos to your order history |
| App usage and diagnostics | Crash reports, feature usage, error logs |
| Device and technical data | Device model, OS version, app version, language setting, IP address |
| Your messages to us | When you email us or send feedback from the app |
| Subscription status | From Apple or Google when you buy something |
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, address, or date of birth. We never see your card details — Apple and Google handle payment and tell us only whether a subscription is active.
When you scan a menu, the image is sent to our servers so it can be read and translated, and it is processed by third-party AI services acting on our instructions. We do not use your photos to train AI models.
If you choose to add photos of dishes to your order history, we read the capture timestamp stored in the image file to check when the photo was taken. We do not request access to your location, and we do not use location data to identify where you are. Some photos contain location information saved by your own camera app; if you would rather not share that, your phone's settings let you strip it before uploading.
Photos you upload may be reviewed — by automated checks and, where necessary, by a person — to confirm they show what they claim to show.
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf under contract:
Some of these providers operate outside the UK. Where data leaves the UK, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or provide it in a portable format. You can also withdraw consent where we relied on it.
Email hello@tavuelabs.com and we will respond within one month. Because we do not run accounts, we may need information that lets us locate your data — for example the device you used.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to fix it first.
Tavue is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.
If we change this notice we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will say so in the app.
